Ruth Wilson FLAUNT Magazine (9/2013)
there is currently $45 available in my bank account. my latest paycheck is around $180. my rent (due by the 15th) is $150 and my car payment (due by the end of the month) is $85.00, meaning i’ve got $235 bare minimum in expenses for the month and $225 to pay it with - that is, if i tap out all of my resources and don’t spot my mom any money for gas, house maintenance, groceries that our food stamps don’t cover, etc.
i’d like to be able to buy a few christmas presents. i’d like to ensure my mom and i can even afford a fucking tree this year. but that stuff comes second to the fact that starting next month our food stamps are being cut by $250, and i don’t know how we’re supposed to make that work.
i first asked for donations a couple months ago, and as a result was able to get winter boots and a new pair of glasses for my mom. paid for with donations rarely exceeding $20, usually closer to $10 or $5. when i say anything counts, i am being absolutely literal.
the moment i told my mother that she didn’t have to pay for her glasses because i could pay for them with money people had given to us online, she was so relieved she started crying. i’ve gotten so used to seeing her cry out of fear that seeing her cry out of happiness was a welcome shock.
please, if you can spare anything, donate. and if not, please reblog. along with accepting donations, there’s also:
